I just purchased a Moeller fuel/wat separating filter. I plan on putting my fuel tank under the front seat, mounting the fuel separator near the stern. My question is...where should my primer bulb be located? I'm assuming between the engine and fuel separator. I have seen them between the tank and separator also, But I would think you want the primer buld closer to the engine.

Good question. I would like to hear some of the pro's and con's of having the bulb before or after the separator. Mine has always been set up with the bulb between the tank and the separator.

A primer bulb is a temporary pressure item and can be installed before the filter for accessible priming of the cannister or the bulb can be installed after the filter. Your outboard does not know the difference.

A boat using on-deck Moeller plastic fuel tanks does not need a water sperating filter. It's a waste of money and needless clutter mounted on the hull. These tanks do not accumulate water by internal condensation.

These filters are for internal condensation situations associated with a concealed ALUMINUM tank. I have run Whalers using on-deck tanks, both metal and plastic, for 40 years now, with no water sep filters, and no problems.

If you are concerned about dirt, there are simple little in-line filters you can install.

As we all know, Boston Whaler now sells fully rigged boats to the public. Only those boats with belly tanks get water separating filters at the factory. Those with on-deck plastic tanks get nothing, becasue they don't need one.

I have mine at the tank. I found it was easier to pump fuel into a dry water separator then to suck it in picture on personal page. Disclaimer this is just the way I do things.

The important thing is the bulb should hang in a vertical position, arrow pointing up of course. Its easier to pull the fuel through the hose when priming in this position.
