Each year, a group of 40-50 somewhat insane swimmers cross the 7.5-mile wide mouth of the Potomac River from Hull Neck, Virginia to Point Lookout, Maryland in an event to raise money for a variety of Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay organizations. And each year, a group of Boston Whalers (and honorary Boston Whalers) provides safety escort duty.
The swim is an all-day event on Saturday, and includes a spaghetti dinner on Friday night and a beach barbecue Saturday afternoon. I have a limited number of motel (okay, "rustic fish camp") rooms available for boaters. There is also camping space available at Point Lookout State Park.
The official website for the event is

If you're new to the event, you can get a little flavor of it here
