I need help on the best size for a new aluminum console for my 18 newport going to an outrage configeration. I'm thinking 32 inches wide, 23 inches deep and 32 inches high. Any help is appreciated. Bob

"Best" is a tough word. It means different things to different people.

I can tell you that the standard classic center console used on the Montauk and Outrage models for years and years was about 33" wide at the base, 26" long at the base and 30" wide at the top and stands about 34" tall, exclusive of the windshield and grab ail.

Please, if possible, take "in water" pics of the 18' Newport before you convert her. I don't think any pics of this model exist.:)

Thanks, those dimensions look good, and sorry the old console is out already. I'll see if I have some pictures from last years fishing. They will have salmon in most of the pictures but you will have to look past that. Bob

If I'm not mistaken, they did manufacture an 18' Newport, just like they did an 18' Montauk...but there were few of them made...from 1981-1984...check out the chart at: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/specifications.html

Just a few words of advice coming from someone who had made the conversion from a Newport to a "Newtauk"...after removing the newport console I replaced it with an OEM console, windshield and rail...was a little $$ if you know what I mean...the one problem I had with the setup was my wide body...having to squeeze between the console and the gunnel wasn't too difficult but when you're on the water...just be careful! :)

If you're going to go OEM...I'd call Sue from Twin Cities for prices...or you can look on ebay...I've seen them from time to time but it might be slim pickings...if you're going to go another route...you can check out the Carolina Skiff consoles...they are built very well and have a lot of bulk to them...they also have several different sizes that you'd be able to rough fit at the dealer to see which one you like the best...for the price of the Montauk console, you could probably get the CC console + rail + windshield...

Let me know if you have any questions...

Good luck...
