Did Boston Whaler make 2 versions of the 20 Outrage in 1979 - I see some listed as V-20 Outrages which look different than those just called 20 Outrages. I have tried several searches but to be honest the information I have received confuses me.

The following article will explain some of the confusion regarding the Outrage V20 vs the Outrage 20. Plus, while the V20 was in production the Outrage 21 was also being produced, albiet in increasing smaller numbers up until 1981 I believe, this fact sometimes adds to the confusion.

Thanks for the link - I had read that article - It seems like they are saying that both were produced but I was just trying to get some clarification. Was an Outrage 20 put out in 1979 in addition to a V-20 or are they the same boat? :o

According to the Boston Whaler catalogs, the Outrage V-20 was made in 1978 and 1979...
The Outrage 20' started in 1980...

The hulls are different as the V-20 does not have as deep a V as the later Outrage 20'....

Thanks for that info Joe. I think when I see pics I also may confuse the Outrage 19 & 21 from the period -- I think they were still the old style while the V-20 was the new style.

That is correct. The older 19' and 21' were the "Banana" style hulls.
The 1978 and 1979 were the newer V-20 hulls.
1980 on up were the Outrage 20' hulls with a deeper "V"....

Actually the V20 Outrage continued to be produced up through 1985. In 1980 they dropped the V from the name and just called it the Outrage 20. It wasn't until 1985 or 1986 that they started to produce the deeper V Outrage 20. Any Outrage 20 from 78 - 84 will be the 19' 10" 11 degree deadrise model. In 1985 I believe both hulls may have been sold, I'm unsure about this though but 1985 was definately the transition year. Then 1986 to 1989 only the larger and deeper V hull was available. I haven't owned either hull but from owner accounts its clear that there is a vast difference between the ride of the two hulls.
