I have a 1991 Evinrude 30 hp outboard on my 13' standard. I just bought this rig, and yesterday evening was the first time I had the engine cowling off. I was kind of surprised to see no cover on the carb. I was expecting some kind of plastic screen. I went and looked at the parts breakdown on iBoats, and didn't see one there:

Does anyone have a similar engine that could tell me if there should be some kind of screen/cover on the carb? It looks like there are 4 threaded holes on the front of the carb.
Thanks!

Oddly, even on the BRP parts site, the 20-35 HP engines show no intake/silencer covers. Higher and lower HP units do. Best thing to do may be to contact BRP directly and ask, go right to the source:

Let us know what you find out.

Funny thing, some came with a carb baffle and some didn`t. Another thing is the only difference between the 25, 30, and the 35 is the carb which is interchangeable between HP. The 20 hp model uses a different shape intake manifold to detune the 25 hp. I have seen the carb baffles on E-Bay, but it is not nessesary to use one.

The 1991 Evinrude 30 HP motor did not use an air silencer (carb cover).
