Considering adding a kicker to my 22' Outrage with Whaler Drive which is powered with a 1990 Evinrude 225. I want the motor for trolling in the bay and offshore .... so I'd like to be able to get 6-7 mph with it.
Looked at Joe's listing and the Merc 15 HP at 100lbs look reasonable .... not sure what shaft length I should use with the Whaler Drive
Looking for recommendations, Thanks

For a kicker, try a Yamaha T8. It is more than enough power to reach displacement hull speed on a 22. Be sure to get the power tilt model as it is a long reach to a kicker bracket bolted to a Whaler Drive.

You will want at least a long (20") shaft.

Yup, the T8 will do it. Just bought one for my 25' after seeing the same kicker being mounted on boats up to 27 feet at both the Seattle and Vancouver boat shows. The other consideration you might think about is the alternator output if you are going to count on the kicker to keep up with electronics, downriggers, etc. for extended trolling. The T8 puts out 6 amps whereas the T9.9 puts out 10 amps. The Merc 15 Bigfoot electric is also 10 amps.
Another consideration is electric start. The Mercs are hassle free starting if you have a dead battery. They are equipped with the usual pull cord. With the Yamaha you have to take the cowl off and unscrew the cover to use a rope start which would not be much fun in rough seas. All the kickers I looked at weigh in about the same, 97 to 105 pounds except for the Merc 15 bigfoot that came in at 128 pounds
