First off, your site has been a life saver.
This is my first smaller boat and my first outboard motor. The boat was given to us in fair shape. The motor is locked up and the old steering and controls are in bad shape.
It is a 1964 or 1966 13 footer.
I found a deal on a 1997 Force 40 with a 50 carb. It only had 30 hours or so and runs like a champ. I found lots of info on this site about adapters and jacking plates and will order one Monday, but the question is: where do I measure to see if this motor is a twenty inch shaft so I can make shure the 5 inch adapters will work?
Thanks in advance, Randy

Measure from the clamp (where it sits on the transom) to the cavitation plate. The measurement should be between 17" and 22" for a 20" shaft, depending on make.
