What are they asking for one in your area? A good money saving alternative with only slight performance loss might be a used or leftover T60 if you can find one.

Price a Honda BF60 and you'll think the F70 is cheap:-).

I'm in the process of putting an F70 on my 15. I think Yamaha was pretty smart to create the F70 - no one else makes a modern 70 at a reasonable weight.

Face it, installing a new motor on an older boat is always painful if you look at it only from a financial standpoint. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to love the quiet, performance, and fuel economy.

There is a $6995 promotion thru the end of August; with install, controls, prop, etc. I'm seeing $8100 to 8800 in Delaware (no sales tax, tho.) I need to get rid of my gas guzzling '75 Evinrude 115 two stroke and would love to go to 4 cycle but I don't like the weight of most of 'em.

Did you get the new 70 Yamy 4 stroke? and if so how does it run?? What would you say the power is compared to the old 70 2 stroke?

I have 1982 Montauk w/ a 90hp Evinrude (1982 i think) and have been thinking of going to a 4 stroke. The Yamaha F70 looks like a good fit. Has anyone out there had any experiences with the F70 on older 17 Montauks? I have 4 young kids who will be using it for skiing and tubing.

Yes, I did get the F70 for my SuperSport 15. I didn't get to use it more than a couple of times last fall, though, and it's still buried in snow. The motor has all the modern attributes you'll like - quiet, instant starts, no smoke, very controllable. As far as performance goes, it's hard to say because I am still working on getting the right prop - I have been overpropped and underpropped, but hopefully will get it right with my 3rd try. I will say that the motor has a very nice midrange punch, very similar to my old Johnson 70, but a full assessment will need to wait until I get the right prop on it. Fuel economy seems outstanding, as you'd expect.

I just bought an 89 Montauk the beginning of Feb and I repowered with the F70 which I bought for 7,880 including NC sales taxes (the guy that sold me the boat installed the motor for another 250). Price included prop, new key switch, new binnacle control and the gauge harness kit. Only ran the boat for about 45 minutes due to time constraints - itching to get back down (boat is a our future retirement house) to really see how it performs - sure is quiet though and when the guy was testing props he ran the boat for about a half hour or so (doing hole shots and top end runs) and said he only burned about 2 gallons.

BTW - he chose a 4 blade 13 in stainless...

Update - warranty was 5 years (I think the 2 year added warranty deal ends 3/31)
