I have been saying, for at least the last month, "I must order a second key for the boat. This one is bent, and it is like glass on the beach---an accident waiting to happen." That said, I was entering our difficult-to-enter slot in a Tomales Bay marina. I worried that I might touch/bump the little boat that shares my slip. I flew from my seat, and in the process, my already bent key snapped off in the ignition. I have all parts, but I also have great sadness. Here it is, my opportunity to ride endlessly for the first time in my life (I am 60!), and dang---no key. Please send me ideas. How can I get a new key, or 2, for my wonderful boat. Da sooner Da better. I REALLY MEAN__FAST TRACK!!! I'm on Tomales Bay, and I am from Boston. This month is an incredible opportunity. PLEASE talk to me about FAST TRACK!!!!! I must get a key oh-so-quickly.

Just take the parts to your local locksmith. He can fix you up while you wait. If the piece is still in the cylinder he can remove it without damage and make another key.

If its a standard Mercury Ignition switch, get the number off the key and most Mercury dealers will have it in stock. Getting the broken one out on the other hand is more difficult. Sometimes a stout set of tweezers will work. You may have to file the ends to get it right. Otherwise you either replace the switch or call a locksmith.

Thanks. I'll let you know. I was able to get the key out using my fingernails!
