Everyone: I started a Facebook fan page - Boston Whaler Classics. Search for it, and become a fan! Or click on the below link. I will occasionally post BW info, updates on some of the Whaler projects I am working on, and let folks know when we are organizing casual gatherings!

While that sounds great, you can do all the items you list on this site and avoid the scams and security vulnerabilities of the Facebook site

Phil, I've been using Facebook to communicate with family, friends, colleagues, potential clients, etc... for years, and never had any issues. I created a fan site for Boston Whaler Classics because of the 500 million active users - and surely there are a few hundred out there who love Classic Whalers! I'm curious to know how many folks who are members of this site are also on Facebook? I love the special interest sites - and think Whaler Central is the best of its kind. I've promoted Whaler Central to all my Whaler buddies sometimes by sending them a Facebook message! I don't have the energy to check in with all my favorite hobby/specialty sites as frequently as I can quickly and easily log on to Facebook. In fact, I am always logged on to Facebook through my phone.
Your site is pretty effective when it comes to SEO - at the bottom of the first page on Google. 18,468 members is also very impressive. However, if the objective is to grow the membership, Facebook would be where I would start. On Facebook, 1.2 million people like Harley Davidson (the company). There is also a Harley Davidson interest page with over 30,000 people!
No need to feel threatened by my Boston Whaler Classics Facebook fan page - Whaler Central was the first site I recommend folks check out!! Building a website and creating a Facebook page having to do with Classic Whalers not only allows me to share my hobby of buying, restoring, enjoying, and one day selling, but it also helps me keep current on the ever changing IT tools and trends. Social media is not going away!

I've never had a problem with FB either and use it almost daily for most of the same reasons Tyler noted. I'm sending the FB link to my friends, family, and colleges with interests in Classic Whalers.

I too have never had a problem with Facebook either. I have all the privacy settings set so I have the maximum amount of privacy (at least for Facebook).

Using FB requires the same awarness as any other Internet site.
