Hello,

I am looking at a Dauntless 15 and it has a Evinrude 60 on it from 1995. Owner says low hours and good condition. How much longer will one of these hold on? Are they very reliable?

Thanks for your help.

Also, what should I look for (engine) when buying. Thanks!

The 3 cylinder Evinrudes have been pretty reliable, especially those built after 1986, when OMC finally addressed some nagging issues. Of course, much depends on how well the PO looked after it. I'd rather have a 15 year old motor that has been meticulously maintaned than one half that age that has been neglected or abused.
Before buying any motor, take it to a reputable shop and have it checked out by a good tech. Have him run a compression check, inspect the lower unit for leakage and/or wear, etc. An experienced wrench will know exactly what to look for.
If it's in good shape, a '95 Evinrude 60 wouldn't scare me at all. I'd probably have the oil injection system removed or disconnected, but other than that, these motors tend to be pretty solid if well taken care of.

Hi,

I have a 17 Dauntless with a 1996 Evinrude 115 Ocean Pro, I was told about 500 hrs use, I asked around and got all good opinions on this motor. It is reliable & very powerfull. I give the brand a thumbs up.
