Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Looking for a Temptation

Hey all. Newbie here. I currently have an '81 Formula 233LS Interceptor and am interested in a newer model, but willing to look at other makes (like Boston Whaler) as long as it has the features I'm looking for.

In 2002, I saw a boat in Martha's Vineyard that appeared to be a 24 ft, closed bow, cuddy cabin with (probably) a single I/O engine. It had a deep red hull with some side windows I believe.

It had a classic Donzi/Formula/Scarab/Cigarette style shape with something near a 23 degree V hull.

I remember thinking at the time, how odd it was to see a Boston Whaler that was not a center console bow rider or a walk-around style with cuddy. It was very attractive and is exactly what I'm looking for now.

Can you help me determine what type of Whaler this was and what years it was produced?

Thanks for having a great forum!

You are thinking of a Temptation. These came in 20, 22, 25 foot models. I am not sure of the years of production though. I know it was in the late 80's. They were offered in the standard notched transom with outboard/s, Whaler Driver (outboard bracket) with outboard/s, and a single I/O with small and big block V8's.

The thing with these whalers are most looking for whalers are not interested in the amenities this boat has to offer. There are looking for a Fishing / Cruising boat not a semi-offshore boat where the cabin and seating in take up valuable space cockpit space. You can find them on Boattrader.com, ebay, and Yachtworld often. Since they are not so sought after you can pick them up on the cheap no matter the listing price. I have seen some sit for two years or more. If you want an I/O you can get them really cheap as the I/O set up ate into more cockpit room and most prefered the outboard setup. My personal favorite is the 25' Whaler Drive with twin Outboards.

Here is a 25 Whaler Drive

Double E - I sent you a PM about information on a Temptation. I have no affiliation with it - just passing along info.

The Temptation 2500 was short lived, being built from 1987 to 1990. The sterndrive model was offered with a 365 HP MerCruiser 454 Magnum.

The hull is the exactly the same as other classic 25 foot Whalers i.e., Outrage, Revenge, Frontier, Guardian, Sentry, etc. The interior was radically different.

Thanks everyone! That was great info.

I looked over the configurations more and found that the rear deck, (sun pad) on even on the largest of the models made, is pretty much non-existent and that's where the little lady likes to perch.

(I didn't have a boat when I saw the one at the Vineyard and wasn't married.)

I can see why B-W made the venture and I can also see why it didn't continue.

Though it has most of the features I'm looking for, I'll look into a newer Baja, Cobalt or another Formula....

Thanks again!!!:)
