How can I use the 8 pin tach with it? Dealer doesn't have a clue.

So you have a 6-pin deutsch connector on the engine harness, and you want to plug into a tach that has an 8-pin receptacle...sure that tach is compatable with OMC/BRP?

Yep, took the eight pin tach down to the dealer and he plugged it into a harness for the neweer engines. But my '05 engine has a SIX pin harness plug, not an EIGHT pin.

Yes, and that's whaat the harness at the dealer had too. But I've got a six pin for ignition, a six pin for tach, and a three pin for I don't know what! The motor was brand new from the dealer and it's the harness that came with it.

Did the dealer have a suggestion or give any advice? Does the newer tach have more functions that require the additional wires/inputs? You may be able to purchase connectors and fabricate your own harness if tach is compatible and you have the know how. Other option is splicing wires.

This is what the connectors should look like under the dash. The 6 pin goes to the keyswitch, the 8 pin to the SystemCheck gauge and the 2 pin to the warning horn.
The loose connections with the white/tan wire are for the trim gauge. The other 3 are for a standard tach if you are using the 2" SystemCheck warning lite gauge

However, he states he has two (2) 6 pin connectors.
That is strange.
The harnesses I have seen have one 6 pin and one 8 pin plus the other connectors.

The dealer had no explanation, so I brought it down and showed it to him. He had never seen a cable like mine, so we searched his computer for images of cables and found it. My original dealer had sold me an EXTENSION cable! Problem solved! I WAS going to convert it with new connectors, but since it's ten feet too long, I may just buy the correct cable from him for $130. ANYWAY, PROBLEM SOLVED! THANKS GUYS!!!
