I have a 13' Whaler (1976) with a great 30hp 2-stroke Evinrude (1997) - runs great, looks almost new. It's a pull start - wasn't a problem before (except my wife can't start it cold), but now i'm about to install a Super Sport interior from Specialty Marine, which means the tiller has to go, and I need an electric starter. Ok, hooking the steering and throttle up = no big deal. But installing an electric starter is looking like way more than I expected - about $650 for the parts alone unless I can scrounge them up individually on eBay (I've been looking).

So now I'm considering:

1. Installing a starter kit - worst case, $650 plus time.
2. Or swapping for another used, but good condition 30-55hp motor that's already setup for electric starting, either as a trade-in, or just selling mine and buying another.

What would you do - assuming that $650 was the most you could spend on this?
