I am looking to replace the propeller on my 1997 40 HP Mercury but am not sure which one to go with. I am hoping to get a little better performance than the one I have now (one too many rocks I think...)
I am not sure of the size, specs or even a brand so if anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

We need to know a few more things.
1. What size prop you are using now?
You might have to take it off to read the inside of the hub.
2. What is the WOT rpm you are running now?
Does this fall within the manufacturers recommended WOT rpm's?

I have a 40 HP 2-stroke Mercury.
I'll bet it's the same as mine, although mine was a 2001 year of manufacture. Stock prop was a 10-3/8" diameter with a 14 pitch and turned about 5,000 RPM. The prop was a Mercury product. I replaced it with the same brand in a 13 pitch and found improved performance with a load.
Recently I swapped it out for a Stiletto Triad II Propeller, 3 blade, 10.5 dia x 13 pitch (ST12313). I love the combination and it tops out just above 5,000 RPM with a pretty full boat or when pulling a tube.
