Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Rigging Cost for New E-Tec

I just got a quote to put a new 40hp E-Tec on my boat: $5600 for the motor + $1500 for rigging (including controls and a very basic "status" gauge, whatever that is). $5600 for the motor seems a little high and I think I can negotiate but $1500 for rigging sounds WAY too high. Am I getting scammed?

Maybe you can have them drop the motor on the transom and rig it yoursef. It's not that hard.

The ETEC has to be computer programed and that may be a portion of the install/riggng fee! I would also be concerned with any move that might void the warranty. Unless you are going to save a bundle, I would not advise that you install it yourself. It the unlikely event something does go wrong, it would be very nice for it to be covered under warranty.

As long as you don't try to start it before bringing it to the dealer for the initial check out, you'll be fine.

Looked at one estimate I got for rigging our Etec 200 and the most expensive dealer had the basic gauges, controls, cables, harness, and oil tank listed as $800.
