With the many glacial lakes here in North Idaho reaching depths of over 1,000 ft. it is common practice to run downriggers in search of our prized Kokanee. I did a site search here on Montauks outfitted with such but did not recieve much data back however being new to the site I may not be looking in the right place. I am currently eyeing the cannon mag 20 which is compatible with my humminbird fiishfinder and would like to research mounting locations and preferred mounts and accessories to get the optimum performance from this unit. Any technical advice from all the experienced "Whalers" out there would be much appreciated. Thanks, Darren

Hi Darren, I have a 91 17' montauk, and live on the west coast of Canada. I have put 2 Scotty 60" 1106
downriggers on my boat. I run 15lb cannon balls, and replaced the factory stainless wire with 200lb power pro braid. I'm assuming you have the factory rails on your whaler, as I do myserlf. Scotty make a rail mount which works great. You attach a support plate which comes down from the mounting bracket
at a 90 degree angle and rests on the top of your hull where your rails are mounted. If you go onto Scotty's web site you can see all of your different mounting options. A friend of mine also has a Montauk ,and he has fabricated stainless right angle mounting brackets that are welded onto his rails and then mount onto the inside of your gunnel. The 1106 model is electric and comes with a 360 degree
pedestal swivel base. These are awesome downriggers and carry a lifetime warranty to the original owner.
They retail in Canada for about $475.00 cdn a piece. I don't have any pics on this web site yet, as I am a very new member as well, but if you send me your email address I can send you some pics.
My email address is lfearn@telus.net.

Good luck,

Robin Fearn Lantzville B.C

I run Scotty manuals on my Nauset. The guys I bought it from laid a nice piece of oak across the rails in the back, mounted them to the rail with scotty rail mount brackets, and then added the downrigger mounting plates to the oak board. I took it further and added more rod holders to the board, so I can stack rods on each side. The added benefit of this is that in the middle of the board is a nice area to prep rigs bait, etc.

Very slick. I want to take credit for it, but the guy who sold it to me did it first/
