I about to replace the original engine, and consider installing twin Evinrude E-tech 250. What do you think is it too much?

Well that hull is rated for 300 hp - unless it has Whaler Drive then its 450 - Does the boat have the Whaler drive? Is it currently a twin or single setup? If its a notched transom you will have to use 20" shaft motors or jackplates to compensate for 25's - just things to think about.

No it does not have the WD. Currently I have a single 275 V8. I have these 250’s in the garage and they are 25”. If I mount them at the highest, the distance hull - propeller will be approximately the same as on my Whiteshark 215 with 25” engines, but around 2” more than recommended from B.W. I’m not sure if this matter enough to use jackplates/lift?
With this installation I will almost double the engine weight – that worries in terms of the drains. Also I’m worried about exceeding the power that much, will this damage the construction?

500 HP is a lot on that hull, w a y beyond what it is rated for. Install a single 250 and it will be about perfect. The boat should do 46-47 MPH, propped right. I have 300 HP on mine and I think would be a better boat with less HP.

Twin 25 inch shaft motors will not work on a notched transom Outrage 25; you would need 20 inch shaft length motors.

Even mounted as high as they can go they will be 3-4 inches too low.

Adding jackplates may not even get them high enough and it will compound the stress placed on the transom.

I go with Tom on this one. 500 hp is just tooooooo much HP for that boat not to mention the weight would be a lot. Why not use one of the engines and save or sell the other?

I would go with the 250 single. I have a full transom 25, with Armstrong bracket and twin 200 Mercury EFI's. The boat is scary fast, and I rarely run it over 45 mph, engines just loafing along at 4100 RPM.

So you have a 275hp V8 with a 20" midsection. Interesting engine, what will you do with it. I bet the members over at screamandfly.com would be interested.

The problem is not necessarily the horsepower, it's the shaft length, weight and transom you have. A whaler drive boat could handle the weight of the 250's; without it, too many things working against you for it to make reasonable sense.

Something to think about the Etecs do not make a counter rotating lower leg. so both of your props will be spinning in the same direction. I have seen people in the past raise the notch on the transom up 5 inches or so. I have to say though that Etec is the DEAL

Ah, Evinrude ETECS are indeed available with counter-rotating engines, at least above 115 HP..

My brother in law has a single, 1992 Cosworth block Mercury 275 on his Outrage 25. It is plenty of HP for that boat. I am sure 250 would do a fine job as well.

If you want to drop 500HP on your boat, why seek validation from anyone other than yourself? it's your boat, do what you want.
