I'm now in my third season with a 1987 Montauk (running an 08 Honda BF50), and am thoroughly enjoying life. I keep her at a slip in Boston Harbor, and have trailered to Penobscot Bay and the Cape. This year I built a bench seat for the stern and picked up a Mills sun top. I've been venturing futher and further out, and with two kids, am thinking about moving up to something with a cuddy (and thus a head). For a variety of reasons, I've focused on the classic 22' hull and am debating (in the abstract) between the Revenge and Outrage Cuddy. Not looking to purchase this year, but I can't resist at least thinking about it.... I've been on sail/power boats my whole life, and tend to prefer center consoles, but there do not seem to be too many 22' Outrage Cuddys around. So, I have a few questions for the group...
First - is there a significant difference in the cabin size between the 22' Revenge and Outrage Cuddy?
Second - what is the minimum horsepower I should consider for the 22' hull (keep in mind that I'm more into confort and fuel economy than outright speed, i.e, I'm happy with the 50 HP on the Montauk, 20kt cruise).
Thrid - what's the weight of a fully-rigged 22' Revenge or Cuddy. I sometimes forget the Montauk is behind the Explorer, but doubt that the '22 would be quite as easy to drag around.
Fourth [edited] - I'd be curious to hear from those with Revenges as to advantages over the Outrage Cuddy.

I went through very a very similar thought process myself over the past couple of years.
I had a Montauk for 3 years with a 70 HP Yamaha, rear bench seat and bimini. I have 3 kids, now 14, 12, 12. Mom likes to read on the rear bench seat. The Montauk was great. We could go out all day and never used more than 10 gallons of gas. It could be towed with anything.
I have owned a 1986 22 Outrage Cuddy w/ a 2002 225HP Mercury Optimax for the past year. I am still getting to know this boat, but moving up was the right decision. My greatest remaining challenge is finshing the trailer setup and scouting out acceptable boat ramps, as I singlehand 50% of the time.
I was focised on purchasing a Revenge and looked at a number of them before purchasing my boat. Interestingly, my wife prefers an Outrage layout, as she wants to maximize sitting, sunning space. I had focused on the Revenge for weather protection when fishing during cooler times or rain.
First - is there a significant difference in the cabin size between the 22' Revenge and Outrage Cuddy? They are the same size. The bunks are identical in length 7'. You can stand inside the Revenge cuddy, due to its superstructure, but in both scenarios, you can only sit on the bunks.

I would say 200HP would be minimum, but Joe Kriz had 175HP on his 22 Outrage Cuddy, and I have seen people running 150HP on a 22 Outrage, and they have been happy.

I think you will need a new tow vehicle. Think Durango, Tahoe, Suburban or if you can use a pickup, a Ford F150. The rig will weigh about 4000 pounds. Look around the site, there are some people who have accurately weighed their rigs. A galvanized double axle trailer with surge brakes on both axles will weigh about 1600 pounds. Aluminum trailers weigh less. You need to be prepared to tow 5000 to 6000 pounds

I think it is easier to get protected from the weather in the Revenge. The outrage Cuddy requires a bit of canvas.

Anyone have care to share their feelings (one way or another) between a 22 Outrage Cuddy or a 22 Revenge? I understand that the bunks are the same, but is there any difference in headroom, or otherwise as far as the cabin is concerned?
