Does any one know of a good place to get a starboard door with frame made? Member Posts: 50 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/06/08	If you did all that work I'm sure you could make a very nice set. I removed all the wood from my Montauk [Tired of the work] and made it all Star Board. Ive got mixed feelings .I like the clean and easy maintenance but was not ready for the pores in Star Board. All the cut ends collect some dirt and Ive even developed some black growth on it. A couple tips.Use SHARP blades,cut slow or it can melt.If you sand don't use Emery cloth only sand paper. The dark color can stain the end grain.Carpentry 101

If I recall correctly, starboard is the trade name, it just gets used generically for those types of plastics. One type is a bit heavier but is not porous. Whaler uses the heavier type material for newer helm doors on the montauks, but you can see the lite version on some interior parts on many boats. I have a lot of hand tools but to cut good straight edges I end up clamping stuff to run a skill saw down. Plus now I find out there are different types of star board. So I really do not know where to start. I think I would get a nicer piece from someone who has done a bit of this work.

They supply just about everything and have a good in house carpenter: http://www.seafarermarine.com/. Give then the dim's and they can probably make it lickety split.
