Well I used the old hatch as a template. Can someone tell me/send me a picture regarding correct cleat placement on hatch? Do the fasteners come up from bottom or through top and are the cleats square stock or routed in some way.
It is 7/8 thick by 28 3/4 long by 11 1/8 wide. The cleats are 9 long by 7/8 wide by 1 high
Even though the original hatch for my '63 Eastport is is great shape I'm building a new one.
I had to buy 1 inch stock and have it planed to the 7/8
The cleats are routed and shaped and can be made from the original stock (I got three feet and used the excess for the cleats). It is still a work in progress (sanding and a billion coats of varnish left to do).
If the hatch is like that of the Currituck (should be) you can see the cleat profile on the second picture of my personal page. Also discussed here - http://www.whalercentral.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=3528&pid=19108#post_19108
