I have been kicking around the idea of replacing my aging Yamaha 90 with an E-Tec. So my question is; where have you seen the best price. Preferably in the south east.

Just check before buying from Ed's. Some, if not all the engines they sell have to be shipped to an authorized dealer for installation. I forget which, but only one or two brands can be shipped directly to you and installed by you. I believe Etec might not be one of them.

Your best price will be at your local dealer. Especially since you have to take it to the dealer to set the engine up via computer before you ever turn it on. You can order from Ed's but you still have to go to your local dealer and work with him. I found that my local dealer gave me just as good a price as Ed's but he knows me when I call with questions and has even dropped other work to have me come in on a Saturday when I had issues.

I agree with "Kamie", your local dealer is best. I buy parts from my dealer that I know I could find cheaper at other places, or on-line. I go to my dealer even in the winter month's to buy items. Occassionally I will need "Shop" support, and it's nice to be greeted by "Name" when I walk into the place, and NOT known as some "Guy" that bought an engine here 4 years ago. It also support's your local economy and community.

+1 to what Kamie said. Get intouch with a dealer as close as you can and establish a rapoure with them. You'll have to see a dealer anyway to get the engine emm set. Also have them set the oil to the XD100 setting ~ the best oil arround. Good luck. I love my '07 150 e-tec.

The ETEC is loaded with computer related information performance and setup. It is amazing the information that your authorized dealer can show you when you take it in for it's first service (3 yrs) I agree with others in that you need to find a dealer near you and go with him. You won't regret it.

Ditto - on all the above.

I recently endured a lengthy re-power ( it'll take a good hard boating summer to forget it) but E-TEC hasn't disappointed and I look forward to my "self" winterization feature and other "freedoms". Kamie gave me a great recommendation and had I gone with it the re-power probably wouldn't have been so lengthy.
I'm sure a local person who as an E-TEC could help you out with their experience. I'd shop it around as there may be a couple of authorized installers. My initial quote was really quite high for my 2010 150HP but I did get it reduced ( when I was going to pull it out of his shop) but once it was all done, my guy did an exceptional job. I paid dearly for my E-TEC in $ and time but I have no regrets at all.

I first shopped it to Ed's but heard too much negativity to really consider them for such a major install. Good luck and lets us know what you discover. More will follow in your footprints.

You can see some of my repower vid's (not that they are all that) on Youtube - search Evinrude E-Tec re-power.

Egerrity,

Unfortunately I didn't get an "E-tec", I got the last of the 2-smokers (left over '04 Johnson 50 hp bought in '05), I remember all the "E-tec" fanfare when I ordered my motor, I asked "Am I getting an E-TEC" ? and was told "NO", lol. My dealer is "Outboard Service Corp." on "Woodcleft Canal" in Freeport. They've been there since I've been walking this "GOOD" Earth (1961). Factory trained tech's, they walked me through my re-build on my old 48 spl, the machine shop they used to re-bore the head made a "Tolerance" mistake, I told them about it and they said "We've been using this guy for 40 years, he's NEVER made a mistake, just bring in all of the part's and we'll see were you went wrong", I brought in all of the part's in a box (figuring I'm gonna take a bath on THIS one), they called me the next day and said pick up you motor, I expected a disasterous bill. They handed the motor back to me all put back together, and said "We're sorry, the machine shop "DID" make a mistake, we'll eat this one, we re-assembled for you, NO CHARGE" ! They stood behind their service, so I knew were to buy my next motor from.

Ed's is good to get an idea on what the engines are going for. If I was buying an E-tec, I agree with everyone, go with the local guy. BTW, has anyone had any experience with the new 25/30hp E-tec's?

Kevin,
You might want to start your own thread rather than have the question get lost in this one. There is at least one person who has a 30HP on a 13 footer.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will continue to look local, but our area isn't known for having good prices. My inshore series Yamaha has plenty of life left in it, so I am in no rush.

You're right Kamie. I have heard some bad things about the new 25/30, so I was wondering if the rumors are true.

I haven't heard much good or bad about the smaller eTec's other than the one weight issue on a 13 foot.
