I called Sue at twin cities and she stated that BW does not make the ground plates anymore. Any idea on where to get one or should I use the old one for the new tank? I was wondering about grounding to the neg battery terminal.

Kevin, Tempo use to have, or make them, but they are gone. You need to ground to the water, so using the battery terminal is out. I would use the old one until you run across a replacement. I guess there must be others out there, as tanks must be grounded. Maybe I'll do a little Googling, and see what I come up with.

In doing a little research, it looks like I might be wrong, and you can ground to your electrical system. So disregard my answer. I'm sure someone here will no how you can handle this.

Kev -

I recall Tom Clark, Joe or Jeff answering this same question some time back. My memory is the answer was the round grounding anode is no longer made since Whaler changed the grounding design to use the negative post of the battery.

The electrical ground path to water is from the negative post of the battery via the existing negative wire to the engine, which is in contact with water.

I would run the new ground wire from the tank to the negative post of the battery.

All the newer Whalers use the negative terminal on the battery.

However, due to legal reasons, WhalerCentral cannot tell you how to hook something up like this. Our advise is to check with your local Boston Whaler dealer.

Personally, if my Whaler came with a grounding plate, I would put one back on if I could find one. I replaced my grounding plate on a couple of my prior Whalers.

I purchased mine a few years ago from a Boston Whaler dealer in the Bay Area.
They may still have some left over.
If Sue at Twin Cities Marine no longer has them, then try The Outboard Motor Shop in Oakland, California. 800-726-2848

Excellent.
These only came with one hole but you can drill the other hole slowly and carefully.
I drilled the holes in the last couple I purchased.
