Hi All, noob here...been looking for a few months, looked at a pretty nice one today. Can't find a section on determining market value so I started yet another "what is it worth" thread. Thanks for your patience;

1978 Montauk- I would give it a 6/7 out of 10. Some crazing, oxidized a bit, everything, including wood work is there. Rub rail needs work. No damage apparent, everything is solid. No screw holes, or modifications to deck any where. Pretty much all original, just needs some cleaning up.

1999 Suzuki 60 HP Four Stroke, new throttle and throttle cables.
Will have motor checked by Tech. Is it true all the new motors can have a diagnostic tool plugged in to give you a complete engine profile (hours, max rpm, average rpm, etc)?
Motor looks clean and I will have it run/checked later this week...
Misc;
New helm and bow cushions, Humminbird depth/fish finder, extra rod holders, console cover, cooler and 1992 trailer whick looks fair.

Anyone care to throw a number on it?

Thanx, Bill

Having just paid $6000 for an 86 Montauk with a 85 Mercury 90 with a hull and motor in good condition (but bad rub rail) and all original wood etc. and 99 aluminum trailer, after looking around for a bit I can throw some numbers out there.

Without pics it is more difficult, but generally Montauks that are all original with hulls in decent shape but older motors have been going for $4500-$6500 around here, newer motors and better condition $7-$12k.

Your hull is older, crazing could devalue some depending on how bad, but your motor is newer although below max power. I would probably shoot for $5k based on what you said.

Did it sit in the water and does it have bottom paint? That will devalue some too.

Thanx Jim, yes we are talking $5-$5.5k range...which I think is fair considering others I have looked at.
Just wanted a gut check before I hand over the $

If the boat is going for $5K, and is fairly clean, then i would think that is a good price. Price also depends on how good the motor is. The motor seems a bit small for the hull. Don't expect any impressive speed.

I sold my 1979 Montauk with a 1995 Johnson 90 for $6,000.00 back in early 2008. It ran great, had a few dings but was a solid boat.

Yeah, I know it will not set any speed records with this motor...but that is OK.

Are these good motors?
I never owned a 4st OB before...

Is it true all the new motors can have a diagnostic tool plugged in to give you a complete engine profile (hours, max rpm, average rpm, etc)?

Not sure about Suzuki's, I've heard good things about them, but never owned one. I had a Yamaha 200hp 4S and it was incredible,

If the motor has a computer controlling the fuel injection, then there is a possibility that all the above might be part of programming. I'm not 100% sure. Call your local Suzuki dealer.

I have at 2000 70 Hp DF / In 2000 the DF was fuel injected and the only difference was in the computer chip between 60 &70 mine has been good to me. top speed down hill 36± fully loaded with gear one person. That is fast enough for me I have no need for WOT. Is the Suzuki a DF or carbonator model?

I like mine [same engine with different tuning] and it will give you Outstanding fuel mileage. Take a test on the water before you buy it, if you do.

I would like to do sea trial but forecast is for some nasty cold weather here in New England. I may just run it on the hose and do compression test...

I would recommend a sea trial no madder if you had to wait for the whether to clear. Make sure the battery is Fully charged when doing a compression test [look at the spark plugs they should be a light brown in color], find out when the water pump was replaced last. How old are the batteries? I would not add value for the Hummingbird depth/fish finder and That is My opinion Only!!!
