This one looks MUCH nicer than the last one you wanted us to look at. I'd say it's worth $3K.

Dave,

There is no such thing as a 1972 Montauk as they weren't made until 1973.

This one does have a console from a Montauk but not the seating.

See the Whaler Model Specifications here along with photos of Montauks.

looks better than the last one. You do not give much information this time. This boat has been painted on the inside I cant tell about the outside. the motor looks a bit nicer It looks to be a 90Hp? any way it looks like you get the same boat as the other one except someone else has already spent the time and money for the referb.

The boat has a 2000 Merc 75 hp, a cover, 27 gal tank under the bench seat, new hubs & bearings on the trailer. Owner said that he is the 2nd owner. I thought the Montauk console was not original. What model could this be ?

It was most likely a Nauset with a wood bench seat and a wooden console originally.

Someone put in a Montauk console later on.

In the Whaler Model Specifications, you will find not only the specs but also many photos of the model itself.

A Montauk will have an RPS for seating or possibly a Leaning Post.
The most common seat for the Montauk however is the Reversible Pilot Seat (RPS)

Thanks so much for the info Joe. Does this make the boat less valuable ?

This one looks ok. It doesn't have much trailer under it if you plan on towing any distance though. Just a thought.

you will not find a great 17 foot whaler for 3 grand. you can find a good one though, as it looks like you have. Not less valuable with that console unless someone is looking for all wood. Just not any more valuable either. Also as I said above it looks like it has been painted. This does not kill the value of this particular boat but again it does not make it any more valuable.
