Considering moving up from an '88 Outrage to a 2001 21' Outrage w/ a 2001 225 Merc Optimax. I've done some research and it looks like there's been some problems w/ this engine. Any owners out there that have experience w/ the Optimax from this year?
I recently had to repower when the 2001 Opti 135 on my Dauntless had a bad #6 cylinder. After doing my research trying to decide what to do next there appeared to have been a chronic problem for the 2001 year Opti model. I know it's not the 225 but it makes me wonder about the design of the Opti for that year.
Get those cylinders checked.
