I'm looking to get my first powered boat for seeing the Eastern Shore rivers, creeks & parts of the bay and doing a bit of fly fishing & photography. Not looking to go out on the Chesapeake and looking for an easy tow, so i thought the 13 ft model might be ideal. I saw a new model and am considering ordering it for delivery early next year. However, I've also been looking at used 13 footers. Can anyone tell me what, if any, differences there are between the new model and the older ones that I should be aware of, or would the differences not matter to me given my intended use. Member Posts: 20 Comments: 0 Joined: 06/17/08	Having just moved from the Annapolis area, I easily motored around the Chesapeake tributaries with ease with a Sport 13. With a draft of 7", I could go places others could not. Of course Kamie has a good point, it was just my son and I in the vessel. One significant design between the new 13 and my '07 is the bench to the left of the console can be removed (when in place can be a cooler/bench seat). That's about the only item I found in the new 13s that could benefit me.

These are 2 different models with 2 different names. You say you have a 2007 model which is a Sport 130 and that the bench is different... Different from what other year and model Sport? Looking forward to hearing the difference between which model years.

On occasion, I may have a friend along for day trips or a couple for short tours out on the Choptank out back my home. So, although I've seen recommendation to go with a 15 footer, as it will mostly be a one person boat, the 13 footer seems just about right.

Member Personal Page Posts: 1827 Comments: 10 Joined: 01/08/06	Hi, Welcome to "Whaler Central", I think for your intended use (1 or 2 people) the 13' would work out well, I would buy used with a motor no more than 3 yrs old. It's easy to maintain, and handle's well on land (easy to tow and move around the driveway) as well as on the water. It can go places no other 13' would Dare go, great on fuel, it's FAST, It's FUN, and it WON'T SINK. Good Luck ! Matt

You can get by with a 25 hp motor. There are plenty of nice ones around, and this is what I would buy. The only depreciation you would face is in the outboard. Rich

I visited the whaler dealer in Annapolis and viewed the new, '09 Super Sport 130 and the bench/cooler to the left of the console could be removed.

The Super Sport 130 I looked at this summer had a modern console and high back seats that looked darned comfortable. These are two different boats IMHO. So, got arthritis? stiff joints? sore knees? The Super Sport 130 looked to me like a Cadillac compared to the classic I'm familiar with. On the other hand, the bow section of that SS had fewer places to snag a fly line. What else matters?
