Hello professors of the Whaler. Have just found and purchased a 1972 16' hull that was a Louisiana hurricane byproduct. Have four years of work in fiberglass. Have read that you must dry the boat before you begin rehab. She needs to be brought down to glass, filled patched and built back up. Bare hull with all the need and ideas to get her back on the water. Any help would greatly be appreciated!
your best bet is to drag her down to the local scale and get a weight on the bare hull. If she is more than 550#, you have some water in there. Once you know that, then you can decide where it is and what you should do about it, if anything,
according to whaler specs, a bare 16'7" hull, 1971/1972 weights between 500# - 550#.
the standard configuration, including interior wood is 850# and the montauk version was 950#
cowboyup, drag your bare hull to a scale so you get a good weight. You should be close to the 550#, if you over by a bit, not too much of an issue as all the hulls vary some.
