Joe - I was looking at your drawing for the Outrage 18 Sump Cover. Was yours originally hinged? I see what looks like a finger hole in the drawing. My 1986 came with a black starboard cover that was screwed down. I am going to have a teak one made, just wondering about the hole and whether or not to hinge it. Anyone have hinges on their sump covers for the 18s?

Thanks,
Don

I believe they were held in place by a bungee cord.

The 1 inch hole is a finger hole to lift the cover off.
It is also a great place to keep the removed drain plug from the sump area. This way the drain plug doesn't get lost....

I have never seen any factory type of fasteners or tie downs of any kind on the Outrage 18' sump cover.

The only thing on the Outrage 18' is the "cast end stop".

Hi, My 1990 outrage 19, which is the samething as the 18 footer, has a hinged cover which is a plastic material. The hinge is molded into the cover and a pin installed. It also has a finger hole in it to open and the aft inside corner is rounded out to alow the engine harness and other cables to pass thru. The outboard half is screwed down and the inboard half is what opens. Is molded in the tan color as the rest of the boat.

Thanks to all of you for the input. I've asked Nautical to quote it. I'll post the quote when I get it in case someone else wants to replace theirs.

If you are interested, I have some made from Joe's drawing, $35 each, 1/2" teak veneer plywood. These should be varnished or something, as the veneer today is only .6 mm, not much to keep refinishing or cleaning.

Blackduck, thanks for your offer. I purchased one from Mike at Nautical Marine. For anyone interested, Nautical charges $75 and includes 2 layers of epoxy and 8 coats of varnish.
