Ok, I've read alot on this site about transducer location on a 17' Montauk and before this redo it was mounted on the starboard side along with the livewell pickup. This setup seemed to have an effect at full throttle which at that time was 35 mph. I am now at the point of reinstalling these items and am wondering what everyones experience is on the subject. While digging through my boat file for the hydraulic steering bleed proceedure I found my Montauk manual and it says to mount the transducer on the port side. From what I have read on this site the preferred seems to be the starboard side. But with the livewell pickup in play should I mount 1 on either side to counter act the effects. I guess I am looking for anyone who has this hull who has gone through the research to share their opinions.

FYI, Lowrance bullet style transducer and Rule transom mount pickup

Here is the transom before I took it apart.

Three years ago , I repowered my 1985 Montauk with a Mercury 90 4-stroke. The boat had always been trim senstive( I've owned it since 1986) but became extremely so with the additional weight; it also leaned to the port side. After raising the motor two holes, I relocated the transducer to the port side as well as installed a Rule bracket for a live well. Both helped the trim senstivity and listing problem; they were fully corrected by the addition a foil to the cavitiation plate.

HTA, I just mounted my Honda 2 holes up as well and I am anticipating very good results. The last items to mount that will effect performance are the transducer and pickup. I really want to avoid adding a foil or doel fin as I was very pleased with my previous performance. Very stable until at w/o throttle. Sounds like you have got a handle on it. Any pics you might want to share? I added a pic to my original post for reference. Thanks

According to your picture you have wires running on both P/S sides.
I mounted the transducer on the port side, same side as the stern running lights, motor wires etc. It is a much neater look with wires on the one side only. I use a Lowrance X67 color finder and it works fine.

wrangler, that is where mine was. I had the bait tank pickup on the other side. If no one chimes in with any other advise I will probably go back with it as it worked just fine. This time the install will be cleaner. Just thought someone might have some extra wisdom on the topic.
