Does anyone here use bunk slides ( plastic instead of carpet )? I was wondering if they were a better way to go instead of carpeting. It seems they would last longer
than carpet.
Any brands that you like? Are they good or bad for our whalers?

If your boat is painted the plastic bunks will scratch the paint. I also think the carpeted bunks will keep your boat from moving side to side when trailering.

My boat is not painted, just factory gel coat.

I had bunk glides on my trailer and removed them. They did work really well for loading and unloading. I did not like the way that gelcoat was eroded wherever the glides contacted the hull. I think that abrasive materials (like sand) would become trapped between the hull and the glides. Without the forgiving surface like bunk carpet, the sand just grinds away at the gelcoat.

If you have guide poles on your trailer, you can eliminate any side to side movement.

I prefer carpet. Long bunks with lots of support. If you want them slicker spray liquid rollers on the bunks. I can slide my 17' right off or right on with ease.
