I experimented with shoot thru on my Dauntless 15. It did not work due to the laws of physics as many here explained/predicted. Too much air in the foam of the hull everywhere I tried.
"This is a solid area in the hull where you could install an actual thru hull (with fairing block) transducer. This area is about 2 1/2" thick.
If the boat has both the standard and optional livewell, the thru-hull fittings may cause disturbance and give an inaccurate reading.
Where this size boat is typically trailered, I'd recommend the transom mount."
Like I said back in 01/19/09 [( What's wrong with a transom mount transducer)]
They say you can not use a thru hull in a cored hull ! that's bull ---- / I have done it and it works great on a Montauk 17
