What do I ask the widow to look for? Hull number stencil and what else? Calls it "1970 16' Whaler" . Can't match the poor pictures to a specific model. Their is no mahogany visible! It's a side console, covered bench with a covered cooler behind it. Forward side by side fishing chairs and no forward railings. I can see no wood anywhere! None of the 16ft. pictures match. Could it be Minot? anyone have a picture of a 70 Minot?
The Minot was a stripped down version of a Katama and had no grab rail nor canvas windshield mounted to the white fiberglass console if I remember correctly.

1993 23' Walkaround Whaler Drive
Bingo! Thank you! after describing it in my post. Soon as I looked at the linked pictures I knew you had it. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Is their an email I can forward the pictures I have? I am certain you are correct.
How about an opinion on it's asking price.
. I have been looking at and watching whalers seriously for the past year. I have two older Mahogany boats and can no longer care for them. Health issues etc. I miss the water
My idea is to get a old Whaler. I have always loved their simplicity and predictable ways. When I stated looking the prices blew me away.
I found this boat in a small town. It has a 1990 50Hp Evenrude and has been in the water this summer. The asking price is $2500 OBO. What do you think?
