Hello! I just purchased a late 60's ('68?) 16' Nausett at a great price, and can't wait to get it on the water. I've always liked Whaler hull designs and am proud to finally own one.
With that said, i've got some work ahead of me to get it up and running. This is my first real boat and, although i grew up sailing and surfing, i don't have much experience with motorboats. I am a do-it-yourselfer though, so i'll figure it out eventually....
I've got a bunch of questions, but i'll just start with a couple.
Does anyone know the hull weight of a '68 Nausett? I haven't had much luck with researching this online. I'm trying to figure out what type of trailer to purchase for this boat...is there anything else i need to consider in buying a trailer for this boat?
Thanks for any help. I'm glad to join this forum--it looks like a great resource.

Thanks Phil, but i've already checked this page out...it lists the '68 Nausett hull weight as "? lbs", which isn't that helpful. Know of any other sources i could check?

Are you questioning the weight because you are worried about water intrusion, or for some other reason?
Congrats on the new toy.

Congrats - one of the other Whaler reference sites list the hull at 850 lbs.

Mike, I'm not sure how accurate that weight is.
Take a look at the other 16'/17' weights we have here on our site.
They vary on models that are smirkless and the later models with smirks and the different models themselves.
Remember, most of the weights for the models include the console, seat(s) and railings of whatever a particular model has installed at the factory as "Standard" for that model. No Options...
Therefore, a Menemsha will have a different weight than a Nauset, Eastport, opr Sakonnet, etc...
Weights for a bare hull are of course just the bare hull and nothing else.
I have spent many hours researching the weights and have not come up with anything written in concrete for some of the "Standard Equipped" models.
THIS IS WRITTEN IN STONE FROM BOSTON WHALER CATALOGS.
BARE HULL WEIGHT FOR A 1968 16' 7" MODEL = 500 POUNDS
Also note that the Bare Hull includes,
Side Rails
Towing Eyes
Locker Cover
Beware of mis-information on the Internet and go directly to the source or sources.
To validate my information above, look at some of the older Boston Whaler catalogs.

Welcome to the site, good to see another Nauset owner on board.
I own a 1970 Nauset, and do not know the weight, although I know I have no trouble hauling it with my 1992 jeep Cherokee. I doubt that the hull is over 1000 lbs, and I am using an EZ-loader trailer. I’m running a 1990 88SPL main motor, a 6 hp kicker, 26 gallon tank and full console and RPS and the load is pretty easy to haul. Lots of guys say to use a keel roller setup, but I am running bunks on mine, since it came that way.
First items to get IMO, safety gear. Playing it safe is always a good bet.
Post up some pics and let’s see your new toy!

Here's another example:
From our Whaler Model Specifications section I have the weight listed for an Eastport model.
http://www.whalercentral.com/userphot...lbum_id=15
This weight was taken directly from the Boston Whaler Catalogs when I was researching these weights years ago.
The Eastport weighs 825 pounds.
The basic difference between the Eastport and the Nauset is the Eastport has a Stern Seat. Deduct the weight of the Stern Seat and you will come up with the weight of the Nauset Model in its standard configuration as it left the factory.

First off, thanks fellas for the congrats and the information provided. I'll post pics as soon as i can figure out how to upload them.
Looks like 500lbs naked is what she should weigh in at...that's an easy number to remember. I'm pulling out the seat and cc, so i'll be able to get a weigh-in soon i hope.
The previous owner kept her in the water for years and i want to make sure it hasn't taken on any water. (A soft spot in the interior flooring has me a little concerned...but the exterior of the hull feels solid all over...) Also, i was unsure of what type of trailer i needed to buy--at a local boat trailer dealer the first question i was asked was how much the boat weighed and i was clueless...
My boat seems in good condition, but after seeing floridaskaters beautiful boat pics, i realize i have a long way to go. His boat looks awesome--inside and out.
This leads me to my next question. The gelcoat is cracked (i think it's the original) in many places in the interior--small cracks in corners up front and larger cracks near the engine. (I can pull a few pieces off the gelcoat out like puzzles near the engine.) Is this allowing water to enter the hull on the interior from rain, etc? Is this an issue that needs to get fixed asap, or can it wait?
