I would like to VERY much thank everyone that has responded to my questions since being a part of Whaler Central. It is encouraging to read the sharing of good and bad experiences. Great discussions. Most helpful. From time to time I leave our Outrage in the water, like next week on vacation in Fla. I do not have a bilge pump. I have been leaving the drain plug out; you know it goes in a small opening at the rear of the boat. I usually run the boat each morning with the plug out and drain the water, if any, put the plug in while we enjoy the day. Should I just leave the plug in all the time and if I have water, remove the plug, run the boat, etc.? I always get water in it in the evening while cleaning it up. I have not been leaving the plug in because some evenings there may be heavy rains. The reason for not using a pump, not much room and we didn't like the hose just hanging over into the transum area. This only comes up when we are several days at a Marina. Again, thank you in advance for your response and have a good summer.
I think that you have the best of both worlds............it really won't make much diffrence if you leave it in or take it out since you indicated that you are there each day to run the water out of it............Personally I would leave the plug in and if it gets water in it then I'd run the next day and drain it out.
Leave it in, pull the plug to drain it out. I would have a Bilge Pump installed, nobody's going to notice the black hose with everything else that's going on back there. Welcome to Whaler Central.
leave the plug out. the water will naturally drain so that only a small portion is left in the sump. Since this is only a week or two out of the year no need for a bilge pump. You could leave the plug in and drain the water in the morning, but why not let the boat drain the way it was designed. Much easier to deal with.
If you leave the plug in and it rains the boat starts to fill up with water. That is the self bailing feature. Same with the locker drain, but would probably take much time unless the cover is open.
