I am trying to refinish the wood on my 1987 Sport 13. The front hatch cover, 2 seats and port seat riser were easy to remove, but I cannot figure out how to remove the steering assembly on the console to then remove the console and the starboard seat riser. It's a horizontally-mounted steering wheel. Removing the nut from the center/top of the wheel does not seem to free up the wheel for removal. I'm sure many of you have figured this out - guidance will be greatly appreciated!!
Yep. The wheel is on a slightly tapered shaft with a key way. Soak the shaft and then pull up on the steering wheel. If that doesn't work, put the nut on so it is flush with the top of the shaft. Have someone hit the nut and shaft with a hard block and hammer while you pull up on the wheel.
