The axle on my trailer for my classic 16'7" is all rusted and not very straight. Having vacation scheduled next week on the cape and definitely wanting to bring the boat I was wondering the recomended trailer for this style boat and a general price. I don't want to get stuck 100 miles from home.
Any thoughts or experiences will help. Thanks
Steve

Find a local trailer dealer. You want keel rollers and bunks. Make sure the boat fits the trailer, the hull should not hang over but maybe a couple inches.

If it is just the axle that is that is bad why not just replace that instead of buying a whole new trailer? A new axle kit complete with new axle, hubs, bearings, springs, and related hardware can be had for around $200.00 (2000 lb rating).

That might not be a bad idea... When we were looking for a new trailer for our 22' Outrage 2 years ago, called around from Weymouth to the Cape and all we could come up with was float on or all roller. You may have more luck, but as Jeff says, if the rest of the trailer is in decent shape, a new axle may be the easiest way to go.

While I agree with Jeff, I am not sure it will be $200. I bought a new 9' tongue for my Montauk's trailer and it was over $120. Then again, maybe I got ripped off.

Steve - Loadrite makes a model for your boat. Sal just bought one for his new-to-him Montauk.

Thanks everyboby for the input. I took the trailer to my local marina and had him look at the trailer and he said it should be no problem for a good while. The bend in the axle is supposed to be there he said. This was after I asked him for a price on a new loadrite(which Phil T and Sal recomended-thanks) or to maybe get a new axle for it. He could have pushed me to buy a new one easily. Makes me want to go back there for everything. And I will.

Steve: I am going through a trailer dilemma myself on a classic Montauk. My problem was the inherited "custom" trailer made by the previous owner. A talented welder, but chose the wrong materials for a brackish environment. In my search for the correct replacement trailer, I was able to get a hull diagram directly from BW that includes several models from the same year. Happy to share the diagram with you if you'd like, or you can probably get one for your model year directly from them, too.
