Another question for our new whaler. The 13' sport comes with a bench seat. We'd like to replace the bench seat with something with backrests. We know we can order a hard fixed shell bench with backrests. Are there any other options with perhaps backrests that tilt or that swivel for this model boat?

many thanks -

Welcome to the ranks of 13' owners.

Take a look at my personal page and see how mine is set up. I have seen many others and I am happy with mine. It came from TC Marine in Wisconsin that way. Specialty Marine also has cushions that can be used. Both companies are on this website in the sponsors area.

Most of the swivel seats limit your flexibility and look out of proportion on the 13 in my opinion. It's also hard to find good ones.

Thank you - I do like the way your seat back is set up. The bench in our whaler is hollow underneath; did you need to reinforce the seat somehow before installing the backrest?

Also, I really like the red piping on your cushions - were those a special order? We're looking at buying cushions from specialty marine.

The cushions I have are different from the ones Specialty Marine has. As I said, they came from TC Marine. I'm sure Sue at TC can help you. My seats are "hollow" underneath also. Mine is a 2001. They have a sheet of plywood or Whalerboard embedded that gives it it's strength. My cushion has an additional 1/2" sheet of plywood that created the bottom of the seat cushion. The backrest brackets are aluminum strap (very thick) that has been machine bent to mount the backrest. The entire seat assembly removes with six screws from underneath. I recently had the seat re-done and had the backrest made with a zipper and velcro closure that allows removal of the cover. It gets really wet under there and this allows the cover to removed to help get it dried out.

Notice my seat backrest does not extend all the way to the Port side. That is really nice because it makes it easier to pass over the seat into the rear of the boat. Otherwise, it's hard to get back there for any reason.
