Does anyone know or have sources for how much a new 2009/10 white (SW) 150 Evinrude costs - MSRP and Retail?

It's easy to shop most brands but Evinrude seems to have control of this.

I have no faith in Ed's prices since I got a quote and it basically comes out even to everyone else's with the higher motor costs and I feel the small guy will do a better initial install.

I want the "E" but what does it cost? it's like the old days of buying a car blind.

Gotta get back on the water - land as far as the eye can see - need water!

I'm nit sure of the price on them, but you might want to call all around your area and you might find a dealer that has a left over that you can get at a good price.........still a brand new motor, but a year older.........warranty still honored too

Use Ed's for your base price but remember that Ed's takes all price markdowns so if they are running a special and you want the extra warranty vs $$ off, your price will be higher.

Find a local dealer and work with them it will be as cheap or cheaper in the long run than driving down to Ed's. The most important thing is the dealer relationship.

I did what "Tom" said, got a Johnson 50h.p, '04 in '05, (not an "E", one of the last "2-smoker's"). It saved me some $ so I could get a new "Helm" and "Rigging".

After being a member of this board and several others, it is worth stressing the dealer relationship and service.

While money is important, the stories of bad service, while not plentiful are painful. The extra time, aggravation to correct install, registration, props etc, lead me to suggest leaning hard on comparing dealers on service and customer satisfaction.

One members' recount of terrible service in purchasing a new trailer is the scenario I am thinking you want to avoid even if it means the price is $500 more.

I would contact Kamie offline and discuss his re-power and who he recommends.

I agree, the "Evinrude" dealer that I go to has been in business for over 40 yrs, I've used him for almost 20 years, sometimes thing's are expensive, and usually the wait is long (summer) but, he ALWAYS stand's behind his "Service", always has parts, and is open on Sunday.

If you are prepared to drive to Ed's, I have a better place for you. My original dealer actually lost the high HP motor business. The dealer that I was sent to for warranty work has been excellent and I really wish I had bought my outboard there, I would have been better off. the problem with NoVA is there are no Evinrude Dealers of the large HP outboards.

I can't give you prices for rigging because I did my own, and only took the boat back for startup testing.

The other thing to consider is that the Etec's have had a number of systems updated in the last 2 years including the ignition, injection, and exhaust. So that would be a factor for me when considering going with a NOS '07 engine vs a new '09... Not that the '07 engines aren't excellent, but the new systems make a great product all that much better.

I'm just not that savvy sometimes so i've had my blinders on and fixating on one shop to do this work - but things have changed and I'm looking around. I'm accustomed to the same old suppliers in my business but this is new ground and I thought photography gear was expensive! So for some reason it's taken me a week to start comparison shopping.

I have had one quote from the guy I like and mentioned earlier. However, I'm blown away by the price of the engine and he's not answering my questions via email. The labour and parts seem reasonable and I've seen him at work but it's the initial price of the 150 E-Tec SW that's knocked me for six.

- hold your breath .... are you sitting down? $14,750! (engine only).

I emailed another local Evinrude E-Tec dealer and they quoted $15K done - out the door.

I like the guy but if he weren't crediting the quite generous salvage of the busted engine it would be $20+K out the door!

I have one more quote to follow up on as well as Kamie's suggestion in a PM I received and appreciated.

Maybe I should just buy the darn 20' 1996 Outrage on eBay (Maryland) at this rate. Item # 320383447264 (Listed 6-14-2009)

Mark -

Keep in mind some dealers do not do well communicating with email. Then again, there are those that don't do the phone.

Did the quote include a detailed itemization of the tasks, hours, parts with costs or a simple $XXXX.00

Here is a exercise to add some clarity. To get the "out-the-door price" lets list all the items required. I am guesstimating on prices but you can fill them in. Add or subtract items to make it accurate for your boat:

Remove engine and controls ~ $300 (3 hrs at $100)
ETEC - 150 ~ 10,000
Mounting engine and controls ~ $500
BPR Binnacle with key switch ~ $400
I-Command Gauges [2] - $450
Propeller - $400
Wire Harness - $200
Sales Tax (5%?) $610

Total = $12,810

Hang in there. It can be a frustrating experience. We're here for support!

I just repowered with a 2009 150 E-Tec. With dealer prep/rigging/binnacle/five year warranty and twin I-Command guage package it was $14,300. The dealer gave me $2,000 for my 1999 DT140 Suzuki trade and the difference was $12,300 before tax. Since my old steering would not work, I had the dealer install Seastar hydraulic for an additional $1,450. While it was in for repower, I added twin deep cycle batteries, Raycor filter and a stainless prop for another $582. Before tax, I was back to $14,332.

That sounds the ticket. The guy I like is $17K with the trade and I just don't think he'll move all that far without egg on his face. I'll see what these other quotes do for me.

Very interesting. Thanks

This Mercury owner thinks you guys are paying WAY TOO MUCH for your Evinrude E-tecs. Any brand 150 HP installed, should not be over 12K at the most.

I think Evinrude is a fine engine, but no better than the others, and seems to be overpriced for what you get. I just saw a brand new 150 Optimax advertized, and on display, at Bass Pro Shops for 9,700. I've seen Suzuki 150's for less than that!

Evinrude is a lower volume product compared to the other brands, so it seems they can't offer the low end pricing offered by the big manufacturers.

Instead of shopping your Evinrude dealer against other Evinrude dealers (who all work from the price sheets), shop Mercury, Suzuki and Yamaha, then let him beat THOSE prices, if Evnirude is what you really want.. Otherwise you're gonna pay too much. Based on it's design and relatively simple engineering, Evinrude should be the lowest cost 150 to build, when comparing it to the more complicated Optimax, Verados and other Japanese 4-strokes.

Try talking to some boat owner's down at the local dock, they know the "Scuttle-Butt" on who's the best dealer in the area.

Finnegan,

I have personally owned Mercury exclusively (10 engines) during my entire boating life. I would not even be seen riding in a boat with Johnson/Evinrude before learning about the E-Tec on this site. I wanted to make a Verado work on my classic BW, but it was heavier. The same is true for many of the other 4-strokes. When you really compare the E-Tec for this particular application, it is a great choice. I have to admit, I was shocked with the initial cost, but I am thrilled with the outcome. If you like Mercury as much as I do, you will love the E-Tec. With better fuel economy, lower oil usage, no scheduled dealer maintenance for three years, low friction design and simplified winterization, I'm confident that the price difference will be recovered during it's life cycle.

Ladies and Gents -

Larry (Finnegan) has some valid points but let's not go off course. Mark is seeking input regarding ETEC prices.

Now if Mark re-opens his brand selection decision, let the comments on engine brands fly.

Ladies and Gentlemen. - take your seats. This guy is a happy guy at last - i sold the pain in the bu....

Ha, ha - Never! The motor is paid for at last!! New stock Evinrude 150.

I stayed with Pat as he gave me a better deal when faced with me hitching up and riding into the blue yonder.

Kamie's guy quoted a fine price so I was just about to head south for commencement of work.

I really did want Pat since he's such a terrific guy and his work is flawless as seen on the Outrage in his shop.

Also, he is right on the water for real world testing which I think is important.

We are going to do some photo documentation of the work to promote his fine work and website (stay tuned). The least I can do with my superpower.

Thanks everyone for the terrific input on this thread it helped a lot.

It seems the ONLY mystery left in life is " How much is an outboard engine?" When looking, I couldnt find it anywhere. And almost everything today is revealed by the internet. Shop around for a fair price. I do know that Tonys marine supply in cape may new jersey is now offering dealer pricing on his engines. Hasnt been a great year for re-power. He has a couple 150 hp in stock. call him, 1 609 884 7272, tell him alex sent you, he will tell you stories that arent true, but he will give a great deal im sure. good luck.
