Hey Everyone...

So a crazy thought I know... I've finally got boat almost exactly like I want it but we are finding that as we use our boat we might want something a little more family friendly.... so I started looking and these dealers seem like they are on crack when it comes to giving me a value on my boat.

I have a 2003 Dauntless 160, it has about 105 hrs on it with the 115 Mercury. Just that alone when I NADA it comes up as nearly 19k. But these dealers are like its only worth 7 - 9k... What are they thinking? That doesn't even include the new 80# MinnKota with copilot and auto pilot, the Standard Horizons VHF/GPS/Fishfinder, the courtesy lights I installed, the fishing package, the bimini, the stereo upgrade with remote control ipod and satellite, the fish fighting chairs, ski pylon, should I go on?

I know not to expect NADA when trading but I figured I could trade it to reduce the hassle of selling it on my own, but the price he gave me just isn't fair at all...

I am going to post it here, boat trader and a couple of other places... But the only tool I have for pricing is NADA because I can't find any other 160's Dauntless for sale anywhere! Even NADA didn't list the 115 only the 90 Merc.

Any thoughts?

I owned a 2002 160 Ventura. I paid $21k for it new with a Mercury 90 2 banger, without trailer. Neat boat. Same hull as your 160 Dauntless.

In the used market you are competing with other 17 foot center console Whalers, which include countless Montauks. As the Montauks in great condition are going for $7,000 to $9,000, they depress the price of your beefy 16 footer. Especially in a saturated Florida market.

Your boat is a great boat to be sure. I think with all the goodies you mention, and trailer, in great condition, you can get $13k for her. My 2 cents.

I would consider giving her as much expsure selling as you can. Try www.Anglersedgemarine.com Ask for Bob. Tell him Sal sent you (or don't). That is a lot of exposure for a couple of hundred bucks.

Best of luck.

While some may disagree with me, NADA and BUC are totally worthless so just ignore them.

Do a national search on Boattrader, Yachtworld, Craigslist etc and see what comparable year/models are listing at. Know your competition.

As for electronics and fishing gear, it is not worth much and nothing if the seller does not fish.

Sal does have a point. Prices in Florida are always the lowest.

Thanks for the responses... maybe I paid too much to begin with... Ithought it would be worth in the 18 - 20 range... especially with all the extras... I guess I'll have to think about this a lot more...

Just my opinion...In this market, no matter how perfect it was and how bad I wanted it, there is no way, I mean no way I would pay over $1k a foot for a used boat less than 20 feet long.

I hear ya... but that's just not the market either. I'm seeing a bit more than $1k per foot on boat trader... There are several listed asking well above 20k... Of course they are still listed and who knows what they actually sold for.

"NADA" is "Brutal" ! There are several "Whaler's" around here that have been for sale for month's, I checked into one of them for a friend of mine. The seller told me over the phone that the price is $3,800 "FIRM" (sport 13), I said "We have not even seen the boat", he said "$3,800, not a penny less, and it's Non-negotiable", I pointed out that "this is NY and EVERYTHING is Negotiable". He said "Then I don't want to even see you", I pointed out... "YOU WON'T" !
