I wanted to thank everyone for the advice on bottom paint color and application. I went with black and surprisingly enough, it came out really nice. I impressed myself.
From previous posts, some of you may remember that I had been trying to strip the old funky bottom paint off the boat. The waterline on the sides and the roll down to the bottom came off with ease. It was the main section of bottom and up the bow that was a nightmare. I only painted the bottom and up the bow at the normal stopping point. I also painted up to the waterline on the stern. I couldn't bring myself to paint the waterline on the sides and the roll down, especially after the time I put into removing the old stuff.
Now, I'm thinking it would look good to paint the waterline on the sides. Any opinions?
I also completed my new teak console face and installed new gauges and switches. I impressed myself with how good it came out. However, Tharsheblows, makes my work look average!
I'm heading to Destin, Florida this weekend for vacation. We're bringing the whaler. If anyone is going to be there from Saturday to Wednesday, drop me a line. Maybe we can meet up at Crab Island.
I will be taking some pics of the whaler on vacation and will post them when I return. I'd like some feedback on the console configuration. You know what they say, anything can be improved. Thanks again for everyone's input.
You will be much better off painting the waterline if you are going to leave the boat in the water for any length of time. You will find the growth will build up just as much on the sides as it does on the bottom.
Looking forward to seeing the photos of your project, so set up a persoanl page as soon as you can
The thing is about this whole bottom painting ordeal is that the boat doesn't stay in the water. It is trailered. The previous owner had kept it in the water. I only went back with the bottom paint because I couldn't get all of the old paint off.
My grandmother always said that Hell was doing something you hated the most in the sun for eternity. I always thought that for me it would be painting louvered shutters in the 100 degree heat. Now I know that it would be scraping and cleaning bottom paint off of a trailered boat!
I'll post the pics when I get back from Destin. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
