Does anyone have a source for the aluminum HIN plates on the stern of a classic Montauk 17? Thanks

HINs are issued by the manufacturer and if you're missing the HIN, you'll have to get a state issued HIN for your vessel. During the life of my 13', it was issued a Florida HIN. The plate was somehow lost and when I got it here to Texas, so the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department had to issue a TX HIN for my boat.
HINs and capacity plates are two seperate items.

I used a local trophy engraving shop. Faxed the guy a small design of what I wanted the plate to look like (I included "Boston Whaler" as the originals had it) and he made me up two, one as a spare. He even drilled the holes in the corners perfectly so it fastened in exactly where the old one was. MA requires a pencil and paper "stencil" of the plate as proof and his engraving was easily deep enough to take care of that.

To All:
Source - someone to buy it from.
HIN was issued by NC since my Cape Dory Typhoon is 40 years old and didn't have one. I'm responsible for creating it and permanently installing it. Just thought the BW HIN plate was simple and would last.
I'll try to find a trophy shop around here. Maybe I can even find a nice bronze plate that can be stamp with the numbers (since Cape Dory's use a lot of bronze fittings, etc.).
Thanks to all.

The trophy shop was the suggestion of Chuck Bennett at Whaler when I had the same issue 2 years ago. And he also suggested a bronze plate like you're thinking of, but I couldn't come across any in my area. Let us know if you're able to locate bronze fairly easily, be good to know.

I'm sure you can find something at McMaster-Carr.
