Hall's Nautical Upholstery + Premier Performance Interiors = Perfection
Last year I picked up a 15 Super Sport and had Hall's make an interior for both benches and the bow area. I had her make the cushions with 3 inches of foam as opposed to the normal 2 inches that are standard, with the hopes of added comfort. The craftmaship is fantastic and I really like the end product, but the comfort really wasn't there. Foam is foam, and will compress after awhile when you are in the boat, and I wanted to try and increase the comfort factor when it got rough.
Last week I sent the drivers bench to Premiere Performance Interiors and had them install a material they work with called MitiGator. Links below, but essentially it is the same material found in Humvees, fighter jets and other high impact applications. I guess I do consider my backside and spine absorbing the impact from the bottom of the hull up through the wooden bench to be a high impact application!
Anyway, it is supposed to reduce vibrations and lessen the force of impacts. I was skeptical, but wanted to give it a try based on some other recent great feedback I had read on another site. Got it last Tuesday, and had to wait the week due to rain. Saturday went out with the family and could feel right away the reduction in vibrations. Today, got out with just my Yellow Lab and could open it up to truly test it out.
I am a believer! The stuff seems to work better the harder the impact. I am not going to say that all of a sudden my Whaler felt like it had a air cushion suspension under it, but the same waves that I would wince when hitting or feel the impact in my lower back were noticeably different. I am nowhere near as sore tonight than I would have been after a day on the water like today. All of these things were my personal goals.
For those of you looking for some added comfort, I highly recommend it. The material can be installed to replace conventional upholstery foam, and they also make mats for stand up applications like center consoles which I will be looking into for our next larger boat.
You need to call Hall's for that pricing. It was not that expensive for the whole set. I think it was under $700.00, but don't quote me on that. Have not had enough coffee... PPI was just the internal Mitigator tiles I had put in.
