I saw a post the other day and now I can't find it, there were comments about the after market replacement bow light offered by Specialty marine. I want to buy one but I am a little apprehensive, I am concerned it will not fit well on 1978 17' hull with a commercial rub rail. Does anyone have personal knowledge about this light? From the photos on their web site it looks like it would work better than the original, looks kinda rounded on the front like it would wrap a commercial rub rail, any comments would be appreciated, thanks

Paul,

You might contact Erik and ask him. That commercial rub rail is thicker and heavier than the standard one.

Paul:

I don't know if this will help, but I got a replacement bow light for my 17ft Montauk from Twin Cities Marine. I would call Sue over there. She is one of the nicest pople I have ever spoken with and she really knows her whalers. If anything, I'm almost certain she could answer your questions.

My replacement bow light is stainless steel and fits perfectly. It lines up with the old screw holes--all good. Hope this helps.

By the way, I just returned today from a fishing trip to Toeldo Bend (Texas side). Is this close to you?

I have talked to Sue and your right she is very pleasant and knowledgeable, I'll check with her. The light I'm looking for is a new style without the metal divider between the red and green, I saw it on a late model Whaler, it was refered to as retro. I basically looks just like the old light but more modern looking. You'll think I'm crazy but it was $125.00, and now I can't find it. The light on Specialty marine looks just like the old style light.

Toledo Bend, love it. We used to spend 2 weeks a year in a tent in my younger days. We rented a water front house on the Louisiana side 2 years ago, thats the way to go, a/c and all.

Paul:

Toledo Bend is some of the best bass fishing I've ever experienced. My father and I go once a year. Its about a 4 to 5 hour drive from where I live. Last year we stayed at Six Mile and this time we stayed at Fin and Feather. Fin and Feather is real nice and have brand ne covered slips for the boats.

We had a rough time this year. The lake was up 2 feet and the fishing was hard. We fished Six Mile, Indian Mounds, Housen Bay and some other coves. Just out of curiousity, and not to steal the subject matter of your thread, but what part do you like to fish?

Good luck with the bow light.

I always camped in Indian Mounds NFS park and fished around that area, loved throwing clear tiny torpedos.

Try spraying a little WD-40 on your lure or worm and see the monsters you pull out of the water using that stuff!!

Take a look at my personal page. In the second picture it shows my bow light. Is this the sort of light you're looking for?

Joe, I was wrong, the light I was looking for was not from Specialty marine

Jeff, your the man, that's the link and the website I was looking for, thank you

Cliff, that's the same bow light, are you happy with the quality of it? Thanks

Now, if any one has installed this bow light on a smirked 17 with a commercial rub rail, I would love to know how it fit, Thanks all

Yes,I am very happy with it. The link Jeff gave you is the exact light and with a sale price of $120, I'd jump all over it.
