Swim Platform vs Dive Ladder

I am considering installing a swim platform or dive ladder on my 25' Outrage. The swim platform I have looked at is the AFI teak platform with single stainless handle and a single fold down step; the dive ladder is the Garelick Sport/Dive with four steps. Does anyone have a recommendation on type or brand? Any others I should consider?

Get more than one step on what ever you buy. I would say at least two steps. With one step your Knee will be under you chin trying to get on a foot on the step.

I went with the Garelick 3 step Sport/Dive ladder on my Outrage 18. I through bolted it to the transom on the Port side so as not to interfere with the engine rigging. I had a small backing plate made out of stainless to spread out the load on the transom. I stored the ladder under the gunnel after removing the Starboard rod holders. It looked great and was out of the way.
I am 5'9" and found that the 3 step worked perfectly. If you are taller, you may want to go with the 4 step ladder.
According to my wife, it was the best addition that I did to the boat.

hey texas outrage were did you mount the bracket for the Garelick 3 step? also do you have trim tabs?

Ray Martin (Raymarine) has one on Ebay (Search Boston Whaler and you should see it on there) that fits the Outrage 18. Made out of heavy stainless with teak or Plastic with a three or four step stainless ladder built in. Great quality and fitted exactly for the Outrage Hull which I am not sure the others are.

The Ebay name is MartinMarineDesign. He shows one for a 17 montauk but will make one for the Outrage for same price. The sides have different offsets to fit the hull perfectly

I have not purchased one yet but will probably mount it on the port side. I do not have trim tabs.

thanks ..i bought a rope ladder with plastic rungs that i can hook to a cleat since i have trim tabs thats the only thing i could think of for now...i havent used it yet but there is a positive it folds up small

Dave,
Ray Martin did my ladder, we actually both sorted out the design so it was bolted above the water line and very strong. Take a look at my page for pictures. Ray may also make a trolling motor bracket for me to match the design of the platform. He may have ideas for you.

After checking out how I would attach the mounting bracket for a Garelick Sport/Dive ladder, I realized I cannot do a through bolt mount on my transom (transom back inside battery box is not flat...rounded corner). The bracket location would require a lag bolt application. Should it be OK to lag bolt to the transom centered directly behind port battery box about six inches below the top? Is there wood there to hold the bolts? I would rather ask everyone before I drill....
By the way, I have not purchased a ladder yet so I still have options if this will not work.

I just installed the platform and ladder from Ray Martin and Its top notch. Very good Design, EZ install. Very Strong.
