Looking for a good recomendation on an anchor that will fit in the anchor locker of the Montauk. Use will be Sandy bottom Lake Michigan or muddy/soft seaweed bottoms of inner lakes
I used a Bruce claw style 11 lb anchor, 5 ft of 3/8 chain and 2 coils of 100' of line. All fit in the locker with 3 squares of dri-dek on the floor and a throwable square cushion on the top.
The bow locker is a lousy place to keep an anchor on a Montauk.
On my old Montauks, I used to use a good sized Danforth and stowed it under the console and pulled it out when needed. It just stayed under there on its own and if it started to slide out I would just nudge it back in place with my foot.
You can keep the rode in the bow locker if you like.
Always used a good length of 1/4" chain first; 10-15'
I use my whaler out of diversey harbor in chicago and have used a grapnel anchor puchased at west marine. Holds great in the sand off the beaches and holds well in the sea weed inside the break wall off olive park. Fits anywhere on the boat.
