I am installing a new rub rail purchased From Twin Cities Marine. Read their instructions and Have all the equipment they recommend. My problem is that I am in MN. We have not had any days above 70 degrees yet and the receiver portion of the rail is really really stiff. I am using the heat gun but afraid that if not very consistent with the application of heat the receiver will not remain smooth and neat.
I have also heard that installation in weather too cold will mean the receiver will bow out once the weather warms up (expand when it gets warm) Is this true? One guy suggested putting the receiver in a tub of very hot water. Does that work? I want to get boating and this is driving me crazy!!!!
Or, do i just have to wait for an 80 degree day to correctly install the rail?
suffering from a boating Jones. i need a fix!!!!!!!!
I just installed a new rubrail on my 17ft. Montauk just yesterday. I also purchased mine from Twin Cities.
I live in southern Louisiana so we have been having those 80 degree days. They say to lay the rubrail out in the sun for an hour or two. Of course, it was an overcast day on Friday.
I had two of my employees help me do it and it took the three of us about two hours. We used a hair dryer where needed and I was surprised how well it worked. I, however, don't know how well it would work for you in your climate--sorry.
One little piece of advice I would like to throw your way is be careful where you start. Mine did not come with a great deal of slack.
