Recently purchased a 2004 Montauk. The two 6.5 gal tanks are insufficient fuel capacity. I have read the other threads on the Pace replacement tanks but my preference would be to just add another 6.5 gal tank with the same quick connect that's on the original tanks for the Mercury 90 HP that this boat came with.
I've been on the Tempo site and I do not see this tank. Anyone have a lead as to where to purchase this tank in it's original form?
lrc,
I am not sure what brand of tank Whaler is using in their newer Montauks so hopefully someone else can help you on this.
However, I would recommend replacing the two 6 gallon tanks and putting in two 12 gallon tanks if you don't want to go with the single Pate tank.
You could use the fittings off of your present 6 gallon tanks and put them on the new 12 gallon tanks. Then you would have 24 gallons of fuel under the seat.
Just a thought.
I'm trying to stay portable as I have to lift the tanks off the boat to the dock for refull. My intent is to fill up when I take the tanks to the gas station in my truck. 12 gallon tanks would probably put me at 70 llbs. Not a bad lift on land but tough from the dock back to the boat after a refill.
By the way, I refilled at a marina yesterday at $3.10 per gallon. I fueled my truck today at $2.73 per gallon. I guess that makes it worth the hassle of transporting, at least for now.
I have the two 12 gallon tanks under my RPS and just fill them at the gas station while on the trailer, do you leave your boat in a slip ? The 12 Gallon tanks are a handful loading them on & off at the dock....
Yes, the Montauk stays at my dock during the summer, up on the trailer for winter storage.
The 70+ llb. lift from boat to dock to truck would be a pain, thus an extra 6.5 gal. would be nice. I would strap it down to one back corner of the transom.
I was really surprised how quickly that 90 hp Mercury runs through one tank of gas. Don't want any surprises while out riding around. 13 gallons is definitely insufficient capacity for this boat. I just need to maintain portability.
I may have to purchase this tank from a Mercury dealer since I can't find it at Tempo.
