question about 1986 11ft. sport

Member Posts: 3 Comments: 0 Joined: 11/21/08	We are considering buying a 1986 11ft. sport for our kids (ages 8 and 11). It has an 8hp Yamaha motor. We would paint the bottom and leave it in the water. Our question is whether this model has an overboard drain. Also, if anyone knows the person/weight capacity of this boat, we'd love to have that info, too. (We would have to travel a little ways to see the boat, so we can't just take a quick trip to check it out, and I don't want to keep calling the seller back.) Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

When you look at the boat check for open screw holes, that could let water into the foam filled hull. Remove the motor, and lift the hull, You should be able to judge the weight of around 210 lbs. rich Rich

If it will be sitting in the water exposed to waves, make sure it is sitting so the bow is facing the oncoming waves as well. --John

Member Posts: 5 Comments: 0 Joined: 04/20/07	I think the engine maximum is a 20 horse. I had a late 80's- early 90's 11 sport and we had a 25 horse Evinrude on it. Definitely too much for 8 and 10 year olds.

Member Posts: 269 Comments: 1 Joined: 07/17/07	I think you are probably right about 20 hp. I was in a newer one about a year ago with a 15 hp and it did not seem like too much. Felt like I was going about 25 mph, no gauges or gps but thats my guess.

I do not think it was restored well, maybe some real problems were covered up. I do not see an anchor locker on the boat and it looks, well, odd. Does anyone have pictures of a mid-80's 11' Sport than I can compare?

Member Posts: 10 Comments: 0 Joined: 05/14/08	According to "another" BW site, the standard tender model is rated for 3 persons and 10hp. The sport model is rated for 4 persons (although same weight rating) and 20hp. Hope this helps...
