I'm restoring a 1965 - 13' Blue interior Boston Whaler and I've damaged the rear brass drain tube. Does anyone know the correct size and maker of this tube and where I can find a replacement one. The ones I'm seeing in the OEM parts section of this site are 3 foot long from Mcmaster Carr. The one I need is smaller and from my measurements I'm getting 1" diameter and about 2" in length. Does anyone know if these dimensions are correct? I can't seem to find any this size on the internet. I've boogered it up when removing it and I can't get a good measurement on it now. The 2" measurement I got was while it was in the boat and was accounting for the flares. I'm thinking I'll need on a little longer than 2" before I install it and flare it using flaring tool. Please help and thank you.
The proper way to measure is to install an O ring on the flared end. Insert the tube from the outside, add 2 O rings. Push the 0 rings so they are touching the wall all around. Mark the tube at the end of the 2nd o ring all around. The cut should have an angle to it.
Remove it all.
Cut the line with a hacksaw/tube cutter.
Debure the cut.
Anneal the tube with a torch.
Quench
Coat the sides of the hole fully with Life Caulk Sealant.
Insert 0 ring on tube.
Insert into hole.
Insert 0 ring on opposite end.
Insert flaring tool and tighten so that the flared tube touches the 0 ring.
